Restaurant Name: Atomic Burger Neighborhood: Metairie (Veterans Blvd) Ambiance: Fast casual with a modern feel Name of the Burger Ordered: Mushroom Swiss Burger/ Portobello Sandwich (veggie) Price of the Burger(s): $6.89 ($2.69 fries, $4 beers) Size of the Burger: 2 x 2.5 oz patties Temperature: Med-well/Well-done (no choice given) We were impressed with Atomic's offering. While Atomic does have a standard cheeseburger on the menu (cheddar, lettuce, tomato, etc.), we opted for its Mushroom-Swiss Burger because the group consensus was that this was the best offering on the menu. We may rate the regular cheeseburger at a later date. Atomic is part of the fast-casual restaurant explosion, offering food that is exponentially better than your traditional fast food joint for a slightly higher price. If you're not seeking a fine-dining experience, but still want a solid burger, we definitely recommend adding Atomic to your list! Mushroom Swiss Burger: 7.35 Bun: 6.3 The bun was soft and slightly buttered, but nothing fancy or extraordinary. Patty: 7.3 Fast-casual, thin, griddle top patties. Therefore you really only have one option: Med-well. Because the patties are thin, some may feel they borderline on Well-done, but it didn't seem to affect juiciness. Seasoned well and packed a lot of flavor. Bun to Meat Ratio: 7.3 The burger comes standard with two patties, but in total is still only 5 oz of meat. The majority felt that there was plenty of meat to handle the bun, but a couple of our more carnivorous members felt they could have handled another patty. Standard Toppings: 7.8 The burger came with a plentiful amount of mushrooms, grilled onions, and swiss cheese. We couldn't tell if the mushrooms were of the Whole Foods variety, or from a can, but they weren't mushy or slimy. Onions were delicious and cooked to perfection. Two pieces of perfectly melted swiss cheese rounded out the mix of toppings nicely and created a nice blend of flavors. Sides: 7.3 Not many options, but the fries are legit. Hand-cut, salted well, and nice balance between soft and crispy. Additionally, Atomic is on the "sauce bar" bandwagon and those of us that took advantage of it were impressed. Lots of tasty options. Taste: 7.5 The burger did well in the taste category. Definitely above average, and impressive for a fast-casual offering. The seasoned patties + strong standard toppings made for a mouth party that we all enjoyed. Accuracy: 10 Value: 8.0 Price seems reasonable for fast-casual. It's a big step up from a traditional (and cheap) fast food burger. Adding fries and a drink does push it over the $10 mark though. Service: 8.5 Order-at-the-counter and sit wherever you want. Standard for fast-casual. They do bring your food to the table, so if you're feeling lazy, that's a plus. Returnability: 7.0 Everyone felt they'd come back if they were in the mood for solid, fast-casual burger. Might not be worth a trip if you're in town for a few days, but if you're a local you know you'll make a trip to Metairie at some point. So when that happens, and you're in the mood for a burger, definitely give Atomic a try. Portobello Sandwich: 8.0 Atomic's veggie option is a fairly standard portobello burger. However, we were impressed that a fast-casual place even offered a veggie burger at all. The "patty" was well-seasoned and the standard toppings were more than adequate to create a nice mix of flavors. If your friends or family want burgers and you're trying to eat health(ier), Atomic has you covered.
