Restaurant Name: Capdeville Neighborhood: CBD Ambiance: English Pub meets Traditional Bar & Grill Name of Burger Ordered: Capdeville Burger Price of Burger(s): $12 (burger only) + $3 for fries Size of Burger: 8 oz Temperature: Medium-Rare Most of our Burger Meet squad works in downtown New Orleans, so we're always on the lookout for a solid lunch-time burger spot that we can pop in and out of in an hour or less. As a bonus, if we meet during our lunch break we can typically drag a couple of coworkers along with us to be guest raters. Capdeville fit the criteria, so we grabbed some colleagues, and our appetites, and headed on over to the quasi-English pub named after the street its located on. Or maybe the street was named after the pub? We're not really sure. Either way, Capdeville is definitely a great option for a lunchtime burg — or any of the other killer grub on its menu (do yourself a favor and order the mac & cheese!).
Capdeville Burger: 6.81 Bun: 6.3 Capdeville went with an onion bun, which fits the burger well. It's also fairly unique, so we're always excited to see something outside your standard bun. Unfortunately, this one was a bit too big, and a lot too dry. We like a bun with a good squish factor, and this one was definitely lacking in that department. Patty: 7.3 We had a wide range of opinions on the patty. We all agreed that the meat tasted fresh, juicy, and high-quality. Most raters felt that it lacked seasoning, while a couple thought the seasoning was adequate. Additionally, the aioli sauce that came on the burger may have slightly overpowered the meat's natural flavor. Bun to Meat Ratio: 5.6 Too. Much. Bun. The telltale sign of a bad bun-to-meat ratio is when we leave half of the bun behind, which was the case with more than a couple raters. One rater even felt that the bottom bun (which was especially enormous appeared to be a sort of "plate for the meat". I think that sums things up well. Standard Toppings: 7.1 When we read the menu's description of the Capdeville Burger, we were PUMPED. Standard toppings included: swiss cheese, au poivre sauce (steak sauce), fried onion strings, bibb lettuce, and roasted garlic aioli. The burger's toppings seemed well thought-out and extremely unique. But when all was said and done (and we actually bit into this monster of a burger), the flavor combination was, well, slightly underwhelming. Despite the fact that steak sauce, fried onions, and garlic all tend to produce strong flavors, the package just seemed to lack the pop we were looking for. We still give Capdeville an "A" for effort, but it didn't come together as well as we would have hoped. Also, for all of you homemade pickle lovers out there it's worth nothing that Capdeville's pickles were too salty and pickled for our taste! Sides: 6.6 As is often the case when we show up with a large group, the quality of the fries (and any of the food for that matter) can vary. Some raters had nice, hot, crispy fries — while others received a heaping pile of soggy sadness. We might just have to accept that this is going to happen when we order so many fries that our group's order has to pull from multiple batches (the old batch that has been sitting under a heat-lamp for 20 min., and the new batch that feels like it goes directly from the fryer into our mouths). Taste: 6.9 The Capdeville Burger is a good example of average. We all finished every bite, but it certainly didn't blow anyone's mind. As mentioned above, we had high hopes after seeing the incredible topping combo that Capdeville chose, but it just didn't come together as well as we thought it would. If we had to pick the culprit(s), I think we can blame weak cheese (maybe give us two slices?), overpowering sauces, and way, way too much bread. Accuracy: 8.3 Just as the quality of fries can vary with such a big group, the meat temperature accuracy tends to suffer in this scenario as well. Capdeville was (sadly) no different. Several raters ordered med-rare burgs and ended up with solid mediums. For those of you that prefer to dine on hockey pucks, it may not seem like the end of the world. But if you enjoy medium-rare burgers (as any red-meat-loving human should), you know how much this changes the overall flavor. Value: 6.7 We've eaten at enough burger places at this point that we know even the most "cheffed-up" burgers can (and should) come with fries. Capdeville chooses not to include them, and charge an extra $3. With a burger, fries, a drink (other than water), and tax + tip you're not getting out of there for less than $20. On the plus side, at least you'll leave with a full stomach and a hankering for a nap under your desk when you return to work. Service: 8.6 Service was fine. The waitress was attentive and took care of all the usual things — refilled our water, cleared plates in a timely fashion, didn't linger around the table and annoy us. She also split the check, but let's be honest, it's 2017 and this should be standard restaurant practice by now. Returnability: 6.1 As expected, opinions were split on whether Capdeville's burger was worth coming back for. Because most of us work downtown, we agreed that if we were craving a decent, filling burger, we'd be back. Especially if we could ditch the hit-or-miss friends and order the mac & cheese instead. Capdeville has a good vibe, a convenient location, and a wide variety of menu options. Are there are better burgers out there (and even in the CBD)? Yes. But is it still worth getting out of your office for an hour and $20. Absolutely. Want to see how Capdeville ranks? Check out the Burger Meet rankings.

First, welcome back, earen quite a few burgers since your lasr review. Sampled the Bahn Mi buger at Mint Modern, really good & the Kimchi burger ar Brown Butter to name two. Second, I think you hamper yourselves by going out in large groups to eatI , of course the cooks will be overwhelmed trying to gget a large order to come out at the same time,

Thanks, Pete! We're glad to be back too. That Mint burger is pretty solid, huh!? We agree that going to places with a big group can be challenging. However, most of the time we only have 4-5 people at each Meet, which we don't feel should be an insurmountable feat for the cooking staff. We also like to rate each spot with a minimum of four raters so we can increase the diversity of opinion/taste! Let us know if you have hit up any other good spots lately!
