Restaurant Name: Rum & The Lash at Finn McCool's Neighborhood: Mid-City Ambiance: Irish Pub Name of the Burger Ordered: Griddled Beef Burger (with cheese + egg) Price of the Burger(s): $9 (+ $1 for cheese; $3 for fries) Size of the Burger: 8 oz (2 x 4-oz patties) Temperature: Med-Well Finn McCool's made us laugh, then made us cry...and then 80 min later delivered us a pretty decent burger. Bottom line: If you head to Finn's on a busy night, don't even bother ordering food thinking you're going to get it in a timely manner. However, if you're not in a hurry (read: you literally have HOURS to kill and you're not famished upon arrival), then by all means settle in, watch a game, and hope your food comes out before you drop dead from hunger. If we could remove the service category from the mix, and somehow forget the anger most of us felt over waiting so long for our food, the burger would have certainly received a slightly higher score. You've been warned! Griddled Beef Burger (with fried egg + cheese): 6.63 Bun: 6.3 Seemed like a not-too-fresh grocery store bun, and several raters commented that it got soggy and fell apart in their hands. Blech. Patty: 7.3 Patty was cooked well (tasted EXTRA griddle-y). Most liked the seasoning and the fact that it came out piping hot and juicy. Bun to Meat Ratio: 7.3 Although we felt the bun was pretty average, the bun to meat ratio impressed us. Some even commented that there was possibly a bit more BURGER than bun, which is rare (but welcomed!). Standard Toppings: 5.8 Excellent cheese (good ol' yellow American!). Solid pickles. Surprisingly the egg didn't add much to the burger's overall flavor. Lettuce and tomato looked ill. Sides: 8.5 The fries were definitely a bright spot! Served piping hot, they had a nice amount of seasoning, and a nice crisp on the outside. Portion was HUGEEE, so they are definitely shareable. And while the fries were tasty, we'd recommend snagging an order of the brussel sprouts as well. They were DELISH. Taste: 7.1 Juicy burger that came out hot and had a perfect amount of melty American cheese. Bonus for the dill pickles. Not sure if the fact that many of us wanted to eat our hands by the time we received the burger inflated the rating a bit. Accuracy: 9.8 It took a ridiculous amount of time to get them, but at least they came out sans mistakes! Value: 5.5 We felt $14 for a burger and fries was a bit pricey. Burger was good, but not THAT good. Note to self (and to y'all): split the fries! Service: 3.3 What a HOT MESS. Order tickets got mixed up at the counter. People that ordered last got their burgers first. People that ordered first waited over an hour to get theirs. Just completely unacceptable. You're a bar. That proclaims to serve food. If you can't make it happen in 30 min or less, stick to beer. Returnability: 5.1 There's not much that would convince us to come back here for a burger. There are plenty of other places in town that serve a similar quality burger in a heck of a lot less time. Finn's bar is a good place to watch a sport of the European sort and/or grab a beer, but avoid ordering food unless you want to pack a snack to eat while they slay a cow, bake some bread, and grow some lettuce in preparation for putting your burger together. Because unless they were doing all of that in the back, and thus serving us the freshest burger known to man, we wouldn't come back here. Ever. Finn McCool's has a decent veggie burger, and we give them props for offering one at all. Definitely not something you see on the menu at most bars. Our veggie rater would have preferred a non-soy patty, but did like the smoky flavor reminiscent of a beef patty. The burger came topped with a citrus spicy mayo and caramelized onions, which got two thumbs up - but the lettuce and tomato were sickly looking. Overall, a filling veggie burger that also took simply too long to come out.
